First, Love Yourself
The Version of me that I missed
I’ve been through this cycle before.
The cycle where I slowly start choosing companionship over curiosity. Where I become more accommodating than actionable. Where I convince myself that supporting someone else means quieting the parts of me that crave adventure, growth, movement, and expansion.
And the tricky thing is… it doesn’t happen all at once. It happens slowly. Quietly. Reasonably.
You start adjusting.
Waiting.
Making yourself smaller in subtle ways because you love someone and want the relationship to work. You tell yourself your needs can wait. That wanting more experiences, more adventure, more connection, more LIFE somehow makes you selfish or unsupportive. Meanwhile, your world slowly starts contracting.
And I think deep down, I knew exactly what was happening because I’ve lived this pattern before.
But this time was different. This time, I had the tools. I had the self-awareness. I had the desire to change the narrative instead of repeating it.
Because I finally realized something important:
The happiest version of me is not confined.
She hikes.
She explores.
She notices birds and sunsets and tiny, beautiful moments most people rush past.
She chooses curiosity.
She says yes to experiences.
She builds a life that feels expansive instead of emotionally restrictive.
And most importantly, she understands that love should not require abandoning yourself in the process.
That realization didn’t make me angry. Honestly, it made me clearer.
I don’t think healing is about becoming someone completely different. I think it’s about reconnecting with the parts of yourself that were always trying to lead you somewhere bigger, freer, and more aligned.
So lately, I’ve been choosing differently.
More hiking. More Birding.
More adventure.
More fresh air.
More movement.
More moments that remind me who I actually am (and I like that person!)
Because I realized I was craving more than comfort. I was craving growth, adventure, connection, and a life that actually felt like me.
